Overview
Mold design is the analysis, design, and refinement of molds for industrial manufacturing. Molds must be able to form the solid part out of the molten material, cool the part so it can solidify, and eject the part from the mold. The list of ways in which a mold can fail to accomplish these purposes is long and vivid.
The Types of Plastic Molding
The most popular techniques in plastic molding are rotational molding, injection molding, blow molding, compression molding, extrusion molding, and thermoforming.
A three-plate mold is used when part of the runner system is on a different plane to the injection location. The runner system for a three-plate mold sits on a second parting plane parallel to the main parting plane.
This technique includes at least four different methods: permanent, die, centrifugal, and continuous casting.

Mold design is a decisive factor for the molding success such as dimensioning and location of the sprue gates, dimensioning of shear edges, flow aids, cooling and ejector techniques, etc. From: Plastic Product Material and Process Selection Handbook, 2004.
NX Mold Design automates and streamlines the entire mold development process including part design, tool design and motion validation.
molding, also spelled moulding, in architecture and the decorative arts, a defining, transitional, or terminal element that contours or outlines the edges and surfaces on a projection or cavity, such as a cornice, architrave, capital, arch, base, or jamb.
